Remembering Tomás O hAodha

Printer-friendly version

Through the generosity of Catriona McHale and her family, OaC have been most fortunate to acquire the original manuscript  of the first Map of Ireland, with places named in Irish. The map was produced by Catriona’s grand uncle, Tomás O hAodha, a poet and school teacher and native of Miltown Malbay and Padraig Ó hAichir, (Paddy Hehir) from Doonsallagh, Miltown Malbay . Major conservation work has been carried out on the map and the restored map will be launched at Áras OaC on 27th January 2012. Copies of Ó hAodha’s works together with some memorabilia of the Ó hAodha family will be on display also.
