All tunes traditional_ Tim Dennehy first heard Breandán Higgins of Lahinch singing his own version of "Famous Faha. Sports Miko Guthrie had written the original version. The lyrics here are combination of both. A sports day was held in Faha near Lahinch up to the I940s and people like the late Sylvie Fox had quite a reputation in athletics. Arrangement. Tony 0' Loughlin organised the first one in 1992. "Matt will play if we ask him nicely". We did and he did. So did 15 other acts. The concert finished at 2.30 AM in the hall and at 7.30 in the bar, just in time for breakfast. Miko Russell sang about the Ennistymon stairways. Junior Crehan, Tommy McCarthy and Eamon McGivney played The Humours of Ennistymon and The Connaught's Man Rambles. Padraig, Joe and Tom Rynne played with Michael Kelleher. Mick Newby came out of exile. P.J. Crotty, Carol Talty and James Cullinan had the house going with Paddy Prendegast's jig. Dermot Lernihan, Cyril O'Donoghue and Seamus McMahon came from Ennis. Mary Custy and Eoin O'Neill came down from Doolin. Jackie Daly brought some Kerry polkas all the way from Auginish Island. Chris Droney brought The Noon Lasses from Bell Harbour, aided and abetted by Georgie Byrt. Tim Dennehy sang (and he sang for every Divers' Night) and MC'ed the river of musicians on and off the stage. For twenty minutes, Tommy Peoples conjured up the hills of Donegal from just four strings. Michael Vaughan and Mary O'Rourke tested the floor with the Clare and Caledonian sets. There were no empty seats as Georgie Byrt kept pace with Matt's soaring and dipping flute deep in to the early hours. Steve Moran was busy that night: adjusting mikes and sound levels for fifteen acts which confirmed, if there was ever a need, that music in Clare - and we have some claim on Matt and Tommy as well - was vibrant, growing and lots of fun.
